New Monastic Discernment Course

Picture
Those who are members of churches, or individuals, who are in communion with us, and who feel attracted to the idea of "New Monasticism" - that of  living the charism of a particular monastic tradition without communal living and the strict interpretation of traditional vows - may wish to consider our New Monastic Discernment Course. Studies may include works from the following traditions: Benedictine, Cistercian, Carthusian, Carmelite, Franciscan, Anglican and Little Brothers & Sisters, depending on a student's particular interests. Ebooks are provided and reviews are expected for each of them. By the end of the course the student should be clearer about which monastic tradition is of greatest appeal, or he or she may feel inclined to create something new and distinctive, drawing on a number of different traditions. The Abbot-Primus of CSR is tutor and guide on this journey of discovery. The donation expected for the course is 60 euros. Please use the contact form below to make further enquiries.

 New Monastic Studies

Because of the need for our isolated brethren to be sacramentally self-sufficient most Holy Cross Benedictines (as well as other members of the Congregation of St Romuald) are ordained to the priesthood. Through St Gall's Seminary in Switzerland and Norway we offer an online course of "New  Monastic" studies leading to ordination. The focus of the course is "new monastic", traditional monastic and mystical theology and liturgy and the aim is to prepare men for the eremitic priesthood rather than for pastoral ministry in the world. CSR members who may feel called to pastoral ministry will be encouraged to do some additional studies in preparation for this.

The Monastic Studies course is also easily adaptable for those who feel called to various different monastic charisms (e.g. Franciscan, Cistercian, Carmelite, Celtic etc.), whether one is hoping to be an Oblate, Sister, Brother, Deaconess or Ordained Clergy. The donation expected for the course is 60 euros. All pdf study and liturgical texts are supplied. Please use the contact form below to make further enquiries. Please use the contact form below to make further enquiries.

Enquirers for these courses will need to subscribe to the Landmarks of the Guild of the Holy Apostles.

"Know also that you will probably gain more by praying fifteen minutes before the Blessed Sacrament than by all the other spiritual exercises of the day. True, Our Lord hears our prayers anywhere, for He has made the promise, 'Ask, and you shall receive,' but He has revealed to His servants that those who visit Him in the Blessed Sacrament will obtain a more abundant measure of grace." - St. Alphonsus Liguori
